Day 2: The Truth About Pattern, A SpaRitual Nail Polish

9:41 PM

I’m a long-time fan of SpaRitual’s nail polish line. They’re vegan and 5-free — which means they’re free of Toluene, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), Formaldehyde, Camphor, and Formaldehyde Resin — but they have the color payoff and lasting power of traditional, toxin-filled polishes. I’ve recommended them numerous times, and I’ve never had any complaints.

Until today.

I tried Pattern, the most amazingly gorgeous shade, a creamy, warm gray base with orange glitter particles. It applied a little patchy, but I was able to smooth it out with three thin coats, a steady hand, and a whole hell of a lot of patience.
But the coverage wasn’t the problem, either. The problem was the glitter. As I was applying the polish to my index finger, I felt a sharp, stinging pain. One of the glitter particles had dragged along the skin, splitting it open.

What. The. Hell?

When the particles in your nail polish are sharp enough to actually slice open skin, you’ve got serious problems. I’m still a fan of the brand overall, but this polish, no matter how pretty, went straight into the trash. If you see this polish, do not pass go. Do not add it to your collection.
